The Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) has produced a policy on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to further enhance professionalism among engineers and the scheme is expected to be implemented from 2009. CPD is defined as: The systematic maintenance, improvement and broadening of knowledge and skill, and the development of personal qualities necessary for the execution pf professional and technical dutie throughout your working life. The definition encompasses idea that: - CPD should be planned
- CPD involves keeping upto date, broadening skills and knowledge bases, and furthering knowledge and skills
- CPD can also include personal development as well as professional development
- CPD should be carried out continuously through out one's working life.
CPD is essential to maintaining up-to-date technical skills and knowledge of processes, technology and legislation. The policy targets professional engineer with the possibility of extending to other grades of engineering profeional. This effort by EIZ is timely as engineering has become increasely recognised as a field which is facing rapid changes in this new millennium. This will enable the local engineering industry to install and uphold a greater level of professionalism and professional expertise in view of globalisation and the challenges associated with it in the international services sector. The policy is aimed at further improving and broadening the knowledge and skills of engineers in performing thier dutie in line with current practice and regulations. Click here for CPD Documents
